The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club Lakers U15 Girls were in Barrie playing at the Challenge Cup tournament this past weekend. The Club recently moved up into the Championship Division as a result of winning a silver medal at the Provincial Cup tournament in Orillia last November. Going into the tournament the Lakers were ranked fifth and were able to maintain that ranking with their results. |

The Lakers played the Markham Stingers (silver medalists) losing 2 games to one ( 25-18, 14-25, 10-15) and then played the Durham Attack also losing 2 games to 1 ( 25-20, 16-25, 615). The team shook off pre-tournament jitters, regrouped and put 1 in the win column with a 2 game to 1 victory (19-25, 25-14, 15-13) against the Kingston Pegasus team proving that they have the skill level to be there. Next, the Lakers played the eventual tournament gold medal winner, the Durham Regional Volleyball Club and lost that game 2 straight (17-25, 8-24). For the last game of the day the Lakers defeated the Ottawa Fusion 2 games to 1 (25-23, 19-25, 7-15) maintaining their 5th place ranking at the Championship level.
Coach Gerry Dupelle said, “I am very proud of our girls! They maintained their composure throughout the tournament and were able to pull out some key victories to remain at the Championship level. I am looking forward to our next tournament where I am certain that this experience developed their confidence and will lead to stronger performances in future.”
